A solar hybrid inverter or photovoltaic inverter is a type of power inverter which converts the variable direct current output of a photovoltaic solar panel into a utility frequency alternating current that can be fed into a commercial electrical grid or used by a local, off-grid electrical network. A solar hybrid inverter is a critical component in renewable energy systems, particularly in solar power setups. It combines the functionality of a traditional solar inverter with additional capabilities to manage multiple power sources, such as solar panels, batteries, and the grid. A solar hybrid inverter also manages energy storage. When the solar panels generate more electricity than needed, a hybrid inverter stores the excess energy in batteries. This stored power can then be used later, for instance, at night or during cloudy days when solar panels aren’t producing much electricity. At the core of our system lies an innovative ActiveFront-End based bidirectional inverter, capable of seamless AC-DC and DC-AC conversion while effortlessly synchronizing with both the grid and DG set. This versatile converter facilitates power import/export from the grid, adapting to operational requirements.

 

  • Serving as an inverter during standard operation, it effectively manages PV and battery power to meet load demands.
  • Seamlessly transitioning to a grid charger when needed, the converter utilizes grid supply to charge batteries, ensuring optimal performance.
  • The inverter section incorporates a robust power transformer for galvanic isolation, safeguarding against fluctuating and impure grid conditions. This transformer also ensures isolation between the DC and AC sides, enhancing system durability and reliability.

Power Saving Mode

 

The PCU is designed to maximize savings on electricity bills by prioritizing efficient energy usage:

  • Solar power takes precedence in powering loads, significantly reducing reliance on grid electricity.
  • In case of insufficient solar energy, the system seamlessly integrates battery power to meet load demands, ensuring continuous operation while minimizing grid consumption.
  • Grid power is only utilized when necessary, such as in the absence of solar and battery power, helping to minimize electricity expenses.
  • By strategically disabling grid power during specific time periods, users can avoid peak demand charges, contributing to substantial savings on their electricity bills.

Power Backup Mode

 

The PCU ensures reliable power availability by prioritizing grid supply:

 

  • The option to enable grid charging ensures efficient battery management alongside solar charging.
  • In the event of a grid power failure, the system seamlessly switches to utilizing solar and battery power to sustain load requirements.
  • If both grid and solar power are unavailable, batteries continue to power loads until reaching a low cutoff threshold.

Grid Export Mode

 

  • If Solar is producing Power in excess of load and Battery charging requirement, excess Power can be exported to grid, resulting in full utilization of Solar generation.
  • This surplus energy causes in reversal of Net Meter, providing an opportunity for additional savings.
  • There is a provision for disabling Export of Power to Grid, if Net Meter is not installed.

Battery Less Mode

 

The PCU offers an innovative optional feature allowing operation without batteries:

  • In Battery less operation, the PCU seamlessly synchronizes with either solar power or grid supply, ensuring stable power delivery to the load while exporting excess power to the grid.
  • With ample solar energy, the entire load operates solely on solar power through the PCU.
  • During periods of insufficient solar energy, the PCU draws supplemental power from the AC grid or DG source to maintain load supply.
